Sharon Simons (Hettinger)

I am startled to see Terry's obituary.

I remember him as part of the 'Regent Street Gang'....

He not only carried his brief case, but the trumpet case as well. I remember how proud he was to attain Eagle Scout status, as well.

My deepest sympathy to his family.

Terry was a friend in marching band and a great contributor to the mighty trumpet section. May he and family be at peace

Terry was one of a kind.  We were friends through scouting, band (both played trumpet) and our love of bicycling.  He organized the bicycling merit badge program for our scout troop in 71 or 72 and we rode 100’s of miles around Niles and Buchanan.  The summer before our senior year, we were joined by Bill Camp (another trumpet player, class of 75), as we biked around Lake Michigan.  We left Niles and headed north with all our gear loaded on our bikes.  Our goal was to stay as close to the lake as the roads would allow.  Terry brought a pack load of county maps from AAA that we used to chart our route.  When we got to Mackinaw City we took the boat to the island, then over to Saint Ignace after spending the night on Mackinaw Island. From there we rode through the UP and into Wisconsin.  We stopped at Green Bay and took the ferry boat back.  An adventure that I am sure none of us ever forgot.

It is hard to believe that he is gone so young.

Hello all!  I just found out that Niles is in the running for "Top Ten Best Small Towns".  Surprised me too, but if you go to Budget Travel you can vote once a day.  What does Niles have?  Artisinal chocolate and great architecture and a superb river walk park.  Guess I need to visit again soon!

Iwant to add that we in Niles have the best classic car cruise -in & car show that is weekly & has the the unique pleasure of being able to close down main street which inables us to have this weekly show right on our main street which by the way is free to all & we have an avg. of 175 cars plus around 1500 people that attend which helps the city raise the revenue to our merchants. I am proud to say I'm the person who is putting on this cruise-in & show to. Along with the possibity of the best small town , we have the best cruise-in & car show in the southwestern MI. area.

I just learned that Dina Nieb Burch passed away.  Here is the obituary and information:

Dinah Burch(1955 - 2017)

Dinah Burch

Dec. 12, 1955 - May 19, 2017

EDWARDSBURG - Dinah Burch, 61, of Edwardsburg, Michigan passed away on Friday, May 19, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with her health. Her journey was long and she is finally at rest, walking the Streets of Gold.

She was born on December 12, 1955 to the late George and Nellie Nieb. She attended Niles High School and is still in contact with some of the friends she made there.

Her parents, George and Nellie Nieb and her grandparents, Howard and Rose Nieb preceded her in death.

On March 20, 1981, she married her husband, John.

She leaves behind her grieving husband, John Burch of Edwardsburg, daughter, Mindy (Brett) King of Granger, Indiana, two grandchildren, Madelyn and Bryce and her precious fur babies, Aspen and Teddy.

Dinah was one of the most kindhearted people with the sweetest smile. This served her well in her many years working as a receptionist for various dental offices. Her career began at Max Rusher's Dental Office in Niles, Michigan and ended at Princess City Dental Care in Mishawaka. She loved animals and she loved life. She enjoyed trips to the zoo with her granddaughter and looked forward to it every summer. She was generous and always made sure everyone else was taken care of before her. She carried this trait to the end. She was a quiet, very sweet woman by nature. She was always there to listen without judgment and her sweet laughter was contagious.

Services will be held at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main Street in Edwardsburg, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-6 PM and the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM, led by Rev. Dr. Pat Somers. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac, Michigan.

Any donations can be made to the St. Joe County Humane Society, 2506 Grape Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545.

The family wishes to thank Hospice for all their love and support even though it was a brief time that they were together and to all of the friends who came to visit when Dinah needed them most. It truly meant a lot to everyone.

Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.

Dinah was always smiling in school. Although I didn't keep in contact with her after school I will always remember her as a friend, Walk with GOD & rest in peace in the light of our savior.

Hi Class of '74---As we approach another reunion in 2019,  I'd like you to take a look at the Missing Classmates page and let me know if you have current contact information for anyone listed.  If you do, send it to me via Contact Us link and I will send them an invitation to join.  I would like to find as many of these folks as I can.

Thanks.  Wendy (Rehm) Comar

Kit Bagley (Locke)

Did you make plans for a reunion? Will it be same time as Apple Festival again?

01/22/19 03:23 PM #3982

Karen McGregor (Bezemek)

Hi Kit, unfortunately there was not a meeting - too late a notice Iā€™m sure. But I wanted to at least reach out and attempt to start the conversation.

I will be connecting now directly with those who raised their hands in the survey and get a more formal kick off meeting set up for next month.

Stay tuned!!

Wendy Rehm (Comar)

As of March 18th, 2019 we have not had anyone come forward to lead the 45th class reunion planning.   We are disappointed certainly but know all have busy lives.  So we have decided we won't be having a formal 45th reunion however if someone wants to plan an informal get together in Niles this summer at a local watering hole, let me know the details and I will post them.   Thanks all.  Keep on Truckin.  Wendy Rehm Comar

Wendy has anyone gotten back with you to do this yet. I thought Geni was going to head this again & I said I would help. Is there any way to salvage this for this year yet? Or was it Karen who was going to start this ? If you can help I'll halp you get this going or do you think it's to late in the season ?

To all of my classmates from the class of 1974, I want all to know if you want to have a reunion let me know as soon as you can. Please respond to me no later then 4/5/2019, & i'll do what is needed to get it going but I'll need all to respond & to let you know i can still set up something at the Elk's lodge if you all want to do this. I'll do all thats needed if I can just get a little help from at least 3 of you who are close or in town so we can do some quick planning . I can get food & entertainment (DJ) but I'll need some help to contact those who said they would come. I can either plan on a meal or just some finger food to keep the price down but I would need at least 50 people to give up there time & money before the time we plan on this event. If I can get the elks to maybe even serve dinner for all who come or cater something in. Finger foods would be less as I can get that part done from a local grociery store. Finger foods could possibly be like wings, chees, veggies, & other asst. finger foods , chips & drinks would be able to be bought at the Elks. If all will let me know I can get some prices for this all 3 ways but I will have to have money in time to pay once I have the prices all figured out. Music I already know the prices, but depending on what i can find out about the other options I can let all know. I don't want to wait for another 5 years & lose a bunch more of our class. I also want you to know I to thought the memorial last time was a bit much, even though we all miss those who have past & want to remember, i think a poster or posted list of those who have past & a short reading of those name would be enough as we are there to hapy happy times with those who are still here , but also to remember those who aren't. PLEASE,,,, contact me here or at rexs73gto@sbcglobal.net to let me know your in.  I believe that we can do this for somewhere between $ 35.00 & $ 40.00 or around that to have this still go on. Thats with a min. of 40 people showing up. More will help bring the price down & still give us a great time.  LET ME KNOW IF YOUR IN FOR THE FUN !!!

                                                                                                        Thanks Rex Lee Carpenter.

Andy , I'm goign to do some checking on places & prices for food this week & I think the best time for this because it's getting started so late will be in late August. After I get some prices I'll figure out how much it may cost & let all know about a date. Is there a date better for you in August. I can get some feed back for those who WILL come & then figure out an excat date.

Rex - I plan on attending a 45th if we have one. Can't think of any dates in August that are better than others at this time.   Steve

Thanks, Rex, for being willing to put something together.  I really appreciated the opportunity to re-connect at our 40th and would plan on being there if something is put together for later this summer.

Blessings,  Mike

Hi Rex thanks for your efforts - I don’t know if I can make it - depending on the date- but I will certainly send $$ regardless.  since I’m in Chicago I can’t really help with the planning from afar - but if you can think of something please let me know - Debbie Lunger

Lynn Bassler (Porter)

Hi Rex, I want to say thank you for your hard work on this.  I am still living in Terre Haute IN and do not make it back to Niles but about 1X per month.  Now that mom is gone it less frequent.  I'll support whatever you or the team can determine as a 45 year reunion, place, date etc.  I will eventually be moving back to Niles but I don't forsee that happening for several years.  Once back in Niles I can dedicate time to a possible 50 year reunion.

Thanks again, Lynn
