Milford H. “Mel” Evans, 56, of Terminal Road in Niles, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 following a motorcycle accident on Terminal Road.
Mr. Evans was born Dec. 28, 1954 in Berrien Center to Milford Harold and Alice Ethel (Harlan) Evans. He was employed with Brandywine Community Schools.
Mel was a veteran of the Vietnam era, having served in the United States Marine Corps.
He ministered in several area home churches, as well as in the lives of many individuals. He was an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association of Michiana. He enjoyed mission trips, hunting, fishing, the South Bend Marine Run, motorcycle riding and gardening. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
Surviving family includes his daughters, Holly A. (Brandon) Evans-Schlutt and Amanda K. (Terrance) Crawford; stepdaughter, Heather Barkmann, all of Niles; grandchildren, Sivannah, Trystin, Landon, Dailonah and Bryson; mother, Alice E. Jordan of Niles; sister, Anna M. (Mark) Carter of Niles; half-sisters, Doris L. Leach of Niles, Marian H. Hutchinson of California and Shirley B. Polivka of Flat Rock, N.C.; half-brother, Joseph A. Evans of Cassopolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Milford Harold Evans, two half-brothers and four half-sisters.
