Jim Joyner

July 26, 1956- March 10, 2024:

James Allen Joyner, fondly known as Jim, was born on July 26, 1956 in Niles, Michigan, a town he loved and called home throughout his life. He was a man of many parts: a loving husband, a caring father, a doting grandfather, a brave soldier, a creative artist, and a fierce champion. His life was a tapestry of courage, resilience, creativity, and humor, woven together with strands of unconditional love for his family. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Joyner; their devoted sons, Tim (Nina), Aaron (Katie), David (Heather), and Miles (Dawn); a cherished daughter, Sarrah; an older brother, Larry (Patty); and a host of beloved grandkids, Jackson, Dylan, Ella, Finnely, Claire, Elliot, Jazmyne, Jay, Allen, Anna Lynn, and Joahnnie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Juanita Joyner; his sister, Patricia Joyner; and his granddaughter, Lilith Joyner. In the words of William Penn, "For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity." Jim has now joined those who have gone before him, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Jim was a man who truly lived. His accomplishments were many and varied. He was a Michigan State wrestling champion, a testament to his inner strength and determination. Later, he served his country bravely during the Vietnam conflict as a morse code interceptor and code breaker. He also had a successful career for 25 years in commercial refrigeration manufacturing, and ended his working years at Spartan Tool. Jim had a poetic soul, finding joy in music that spanned all genres, in the works of art he created with both skill and passion. He spent meaningful hours fishing with friends. He was known for his culinary skills, his "can do" spirit, and the laughter he brought into the lives of those around him. Jim was often heard saying, "You can never be dammed for being kind", he embodied this spirit, turning his hobbies and passions into his life's work and joy. We invite you to leave your memories of Jim and upload photos to his memorial page, to help us celebrate the life of this remarkable man. His story is not just one of dates and places, but of a life lived fully, with love, courage, and a spirit that was uniquely Jim's. Let us remember and celebrate him, together. The family will hold a celebration of life at a latter date. A closed private family service will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Mishawaka, Indiana.
