I will never forget at our fish fry John Brawley telling one joke after another, every time he would bring us another batch of fish!!! I still laugh today when I think about it! So, good or bad jokes, a sense of humor goes a long way!!!!

Last week in Colorado, I thought of you as my husband and I headed up the Poudre River to the hotspot of Walden, CO...Enjoyed a great lunch at the bikers' corner, where lots of Harleys (and others) were parked...many eating outside, some inside, on a beautiful end-of-summer day.

Have you ever seen moose out in the Long-Arm Draw? A very cool drive....and/or over the mountains (gravel) off Hwy 14, to Rand, and down to Grand Lake?

And--also in Denver, thought of you...hope you were doing a 'bottoms-up' toast to your weekend...

Hey my peeps! I just got back from a few days in Indy and a most beautiful wedding (Pat Benjamin's daughter) I will post pics, b/c Lord knows she won't!

Okay, I think that I am caught up ... maybe!
I start school in two days and I was looking over my class list. Out of 108 students on my team, test scores show that 52 of them are reading between one and four grades below their reading level. I have 18 students that, either the mother's name, or father's name is unavailable. Last but not least, 56% of them are on free or reduced lunch. ...and this my friends is NOT a joke

Cheryl - and out of 108 students on your team, w/ test scores showing that 52 of them are reading between one and four grades below their reading level and the 18 students that, either the mother's name, or father's name is unavailable, and the 56% that are on FREE or reduced lunch, most will EXPECT the taxpayer to take care of them, and all their offspring, from birth to death because we enable people to stay helpless and poor with "noble" efforts we call public assistance. I agree, times ARE "changing". More and more people are expecting someone else to pull them through life. How much more can we support?

This sounds very insensitive but there is a reason for "survival of the fittest" !! You can't just bail people or countries out, especially when the infrastructure is missing that perpetuates or supports the system imposed upon them.
I had a great first day - only had 5 students that said, "Hey, my mom or dad said that you were their teacher!" I am sure that there will be more to come ;)
