Does any one know what happened to Shummy??? How did he pass.???

Shummy Allen Cochran, age 57 of Dowagiac, formerly of Niles, died on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at his home unexpectedly, but of natural causes. He was born June 5, 1956 in Niles to Robert Allen and Dorothy “Dutch” (Schanbacher) Cochran.

Shummy was a 1974 graduate of Niles High School. He was the former owner of A & J Tool Rental in Niles and owner of The In-Between, between Cassopolis and Dowagiac. He was also a former member of the Niles and Dowagiac Elks Clubs.

Shummy is survived by his daughter, Cristy McNeary, of Grand Rapids, Michigan and sister Randy Asmus of Niles. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Debbi Simpson.

Services will be private.

Contributions in memory of Shummy may be made to the ALS Association (Lou Gehrig's Disease) or to the organization of choice

This is so very sad.   He, my younger brother and I used to shoot hoops together so many years ago, as Shummy lived sort of across the street from us in Ballard Hills.  Does anyone know how to reach out to his sister and/or daughter?

ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) is an awful thing. (My father and his mother both were stricken with it.) Muscular degeneration, even with the mind intact...(Think Stephen Hawking, who has survived with it longer than anyone that I'm aware.)

Praying for Shummy's family, and for his release from this suffering.
