Definitely have to give him the Barney style as I don't think we can trust him with the real thing!

Pam Wery (Payne )

Maybe we should just get him a cap gun?
Or one with the rubber darts?

04/12/09 03:34 PM #1260

Linda Behm

That would be most appropriate!

I just read some more profiles and wanted to see how many of you remember Pat's Pharmacy in Eastgate Shopping Center?( My mom was the manager) Vance mentioned the drink Blend. Yes -this was a lemon-lime mix that was made in a machine; a popular drink along with the cherry and chocolate cokes that were hand made. That soda fountain was one of the gold mines for that place. Had daily specials and the burgers were awesome . Noone could make a chocolate soda like the owner Pat though!! They only had 4 tables and the typical line of soda fountain stools. The bag boys from Kroger's would come down for their breaks every day along with Carl and Tinney from Western Auto..Pat had a good heart and treated everyone (young and old )with respect.

Whoa, Eileen! You've got me flashing back to all the times my mom and I would have lunch at the Pharmacy - grilled cheese sandwiches, choc. Coke and the jukebox playing "Red Roses for a Blue Lady" and "Danke Schoen!"

I remember the pharmacy it was the best. I remember buying cinnamon oil and making our own cinnamon toothpicks. Loved the soda fountain. It's just a same that our kids can't have these types of memories..They were the best..

Hey girls, is there anything left of the old eastgate shopping center ??? The last time I was in town it was looking pretty bleak.....

Pam Wery (Payne )

Eastgate Shopping Center is Now EMPTY!
The buildings are still there but all are empty.
The Township is talking about having it torn down and then have the land for sale. As it stands it would be worth more that way.

Don,

Eastgate isn't the only thing pretty "bleak" in Niles. The downtown area is slowly turning into a ghost town. Nothing seems to survive down there ever since the "Fayette Bar" moved out of town! Remember their specialty shots - MF'ers! Holy crap those were poison! MF'ers were a shot of 151 rum topped off with just enough chartreuse to light on fire!!! These days they'd be called "Liabilities" instead of "MF'ers"!

I think I only drank one shot when I turned 18, and one shot was enough to cure me from EVER wanting another! We didn't have 'Bucket Lists' back then, but if we had, it would have gotten crossed off the list very quickly!

Since my first priority was to my eyebrows and eyelashes, I blew out the fire before I drank it, but it still tasted like FIRE laced with dish detergent all the way down the pipes! And shortly after it was all over, I got to experience what it was like coming back UP the pipes and one can only describe it as 'liquid hell'!

I believe you guys were rightly coined a "Manly-Man-Boy" if you could take a MF shot without gaging it back up or having to be transported to the burn unit in Kalamazoo!

Do any of you remember doing an MF shot at the Fayette, and if so, what was you're experience? Be truthful.

Suellen - I think Mike Chapman (another of the Phillips Road gang!) can answer the "flaming shots" question. I remember the burns on his face from downing one of those.

Mike - how 'bout a first person narrative?

Lips of fire!! I guess I wasn't really crazy, after all! I saw one of my classmates maimed after dribbling fire down his face, and quickly determined I did not want to be in that club!

BUT WAIT!!! What's this you say?!?! No Fayette?!?!? Say it ain't so, Joe!! I'm cancelling my plane reservations!!
;^)

I remember getting vanilla phosphates from a place down town. They taste a whole lot like cream soda's.

I worked co-op at First Federal Savings and Loan... every day when I got off work, and headed for school, the DJ played the same two songs..

And when I die. (Blood Sweat and Tears, with David Clayton Thomas)
and
One is the loneliest number.(Three Dog Night)

Color My World (Chicago) will always have a special place in my memory.

Also, I remember enjoying Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. However, when my own children began listening to Jerry, I had to pull out my old records, and try to figure out why?! Then it all came back.

When we were first introduced to Led Zeppelin we were only a few years younger than the members of the band were! Their music has certainly stood the test of time, and their new stuff is fantastic too.
When my oldest was in high school, he came home with a Led Zeppelin box set. Probably around 10th grade. I enjoyed it as much as they did.

...except "Time," of course...

Good thing we're no longer just a few years younger than Bob Plant, Sue Sue!

Yeah, Craig, "Raising Sand" won a bunch of grammies, including Record of the Year, which I used to think was a big deal. I've enjoyed Alison with Union Station, too. Beautiful voice! And great harmony with Bobbie P.

Jim, did you get my response about staying at my house? I hadn't heard back and wanted to make sure. Heather is looking forward to meeting you. She wrote an article for the Viking Journal and it begins with a quote from you. We have extra copies and yours will be in the mail shortly.
