No Problem Steve!

Should I bring my cuffs in case anyone trys to "re-live" the night over again?
I'll leave the side arm at home!
NO shots fired this time!
Well maybe "bar" shots!

I've been away for a bit, but just read the past few days posts about the beloved VW prank. Anyone care to pontificate on what would happen if our kids tried to pull that prank today??? (If WE tried it today, we'd pull our backs out pulling the thing up the ladders, and someone would have made us all signs waivers of liability before we joined the prank?)

Today if the "kids" were caught, it would be a 93 day misdeamer. FOR each act.
Being on School property after hours
Noise
Distruction of property (school)
And lets not forget MIPI
(Minor in Possession of Intoxiniants)
And or Minior under consumption
And I'm sure there might be a few I missed.

OK enough working at home, but I had to answer, someone did ask.

Back to the fun................

Okay, so what month did this "prank" occur? Why can't I remember the school being "abuzz" (if you'll forgive the pun) about it? If it was close to graduation, I was hardly ever at school for I was working Co-Op, at, get this, Bertles' Volkswagen in Roseland!

Why was it a Vee Dubya? Any significance? C'mon, Ace Reporter Laughinstock...you need to dig deeper. And who in the heck had the time to mix cement? Where were the security guards? Or more importantly, did we HAVE any? How did you all see in the dark? Night-vision goggles? Or beer-goggles? And, last but not least, other than Mr. Merica, did anyone else go pee-pee in their pants, if indeed, shots WERE fired? Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh, yeah...does this have anything to do with whatever previous class stole the cow from Schmidt's Packing Company on (what was then) Old 31 on the way out of Niles towards Berrien Springs? My sense of humor has always been warped, and I remember THAT, because Granny Carbon collected glass and porcelain cow creamers, and I thought it was one of the funniest things I'd ever heard of, somehow picturing it in her living room!!

Did they put it on the roof of the school? Was this the class of '73? Can anyone he'p me out on this?!? And I have one more question for our Ace Reporter...why and what did you do/say/etc. to the kids from B.H. to cause Mr. Merica to come to your aid? Did you have a little bit of precognition at the time and know that SOMEDAY our dear pal would become a Black Belt? Holy cow.

Suzi, Senior pranks happen every year, We wanted to do something different, and we did! The class of 73 borrowed the pink elephant from a liquor store, the cow was used in the past, never put on the roof. Tom B. could tell you the exact time we did it , I think it was in May. Yes there were shots fired, (Pam confirmed this) I was pulling up the ladder so the cops could'nt get up on the roof! BANG, BANG, yes I dropped the ladder, and yes there was a brown mark in my pants!!!!

I still think Merica is pulling everyone's legs - shot(s) fired? I was on the rood and would have heard this. What Merica heard was probably the sound of another (running) VW backfiring. Until I read the police report I won't believe the shots fired part of the story.

I do. I believe it.

I was just wondering if the sound you might have heard Steve was something that lead to leave the brown spot in your pants?????? Just teasing!! Pam is doing a great job of inside private investigating and I'm sure she will be able to confirm your memories soon. As all these memories are coming back to us all, (now that we have somewhat clearer minds) was it also our class that let the pig loose in the hall ways?? I have a vague memory of that but not sure if that was our class or one before or after us?? If it was ours, it's time to come clean with the details guys!! If I remember right, speaking of cleaning, I think the pig left some "brown spots" of his own in the hallway. Maybe I am remembering this wrong and it was after finishing the whole 2nd bottle of Boone's Farm!! Eileen, yes I unclearly remember finishing a bottle or 2 of Boone's Farm. I also remember giving it back many times over the nice cool side of the white bowl!!!!! Have a great Easter everyone and am so looking forward to sharing memories and catching up with all of you in August!!

Just another thought for all of you!! I don't know about you guys but I am missing Vance's colorful and fun additions to the forum and will be glad when he is back to join in the fun!!! When you catch up on all the messages here Vance, speaking for all of us, WE MISS YOU!!!!

Tom H.- One policeman trying to get up the ladder, the other one pulled his gun and fired,
one other put I believe Eddy Holmes in the back of the car! I would not make this up, Pam already got the report and she said shots were fired, NOW!!

I thought I heard J H and E H were handcuffed together.

Love knowing the down and 'dirty' on the whole escapade! And yes, I too recall the other senior pranks since I was dating Brent and he was involved in the '72 deal. Was that the pig or the cow. It all runs together. Sue, what did the class of '75 do? Anyway, you mentioned Ed Holmes -where is he these days?

Awright, kids, listen up. You like cheap entertainment? I've got an idea for the cheapest sort of entertainment-- free!
Seems to me what we have here is a failure to communicate! (Cool Hand Luke) What we need is a narrative that will fully document The Prank. With the help of ace NHS74 Magazine staff writer Brad Laughinstock, I'll be interviewing the perps, uh participants about their recollections of this historic event. We'll put the completed saga up on the Prank page. Format will be question and answer, location will be on your individual profiles.

THIS IS AN AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION EXCERCISE!

If you're questioned by Brad, type your response into your profile at "post response."

So we have learned that the following culprits, uh classmates participated: Les Holt, Joe Paquette, Jim Gilley, Steve Merica, Jim Szot, Bill Messner and Dave Barnes. Brad will be stopping by the profiles of those who have joined our website.

Everybody else: if you have a recollection or participated and your name isn't above, contact me.
To everybody: prizes will be awarded for the most humorous responses; mostly, we'll all laugh at you!

I can already promise you a yuckfest!

You guys are too funny! I love the VW story.....I had no idea!! I can't wait to hear the REAL story.

Karen, Ed Holmes had been living in Florida for many years.....Ft Lauderdale area I think?

I too miss reading Vance's comments. He really has come out of his shell sence school. I am having too much fun just reading this message forum. Has really gotten me thinking about alot of old friends.

We DO need a narrative that will fully document The Prank!

Thanks Brad for taking it on!

You might think we're making a mountain out of a molehill, but consider this: I learned from Heather Daniels (Dana's daughter) what the prank was last year, 2008. They spelled out "Class of 08" on the lawn in front of NHS, using PLASTIC FORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I, for one, believe they should stop calling them senior pranks, if they are that lame! That shouldn't even be mentioned in the same category with the VW!

04/12/09 01:27 PM #1252

Don Nugent

Jim, u have to consider the amount of trouble these young "snot nosed punks" can get into these days. Like pam said, 90 days fer this , 120 days fer dat. I, for one, think that plastic forks was a novel idea. Just think, the class of 2009 can use plastic spoons, leaving the class of 2010 to use what's left......plastic knives...???? Things were different in my day, sonny

04/12/09 01:43 PM #1253

Jim Lanier

I'm guessing sporks are somewhere in the lawn's future. In fact, it was pretty risky, using forks! Somebody couldda got hurt!!!

Oh, and hey everybody, we have confirmation of the gunshot! An ear-witness! Not that we doubted you Steve, it was just the first I've heard of it, although I might have heard about it 35 years ago, hard to say!

So anyway, let's have a special prize for Steve at the reunion, for saving us from the Benton Harbor fans and the (apparently INSANE) Niles PD!!!

04/12/09 01:52 PM #1254

Don Nugent

Jim, how about a chrome plated 38 special for steve ?? So, after 35 years, he can shoot back...

04/12/09 03:29 PM #1255

Pam Wery (Payne )

Do we give him a full magazine (clip) or just one like Barney?

04/12/09 03:32 PM #1256

Don Nugent

Pam, just one.......and u hold on to it

04/12/09 03:32 PM #1257

Pam Wery (Payne )

I can do that!
