What are your favorite memories of NHS?

I don't really have any. I liked school for it's self, but I was far too shy back then become involved in any social aspects of school. Man...thank God that ship has sailed!
How often do you get back to Niles, MI?

I never left.

Do you still see/talk to/hang out with any classmates? Who?

I worked with Diana (Stewart) Curran and Bill Weaver's wife, Pam at Brandywine. We still see each other at our retiree lunches.

Did you have any nicknames in school? If so, what were they?

No.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

We recently purchased property in northern Michigan, right across the street from Lake Huron. We enjoy sailing, kayaking, hiking, biking and walking the beach. All my spare time is spent making prayer shawls for cancer patients at the Memorial Breast Care Center in South Bend.

I am so sorry to hear of Joni's passing. We grew up in the same neighborhood around Eastside school and were childhood friends for many years. Like with many childhood friendships, we drifted apart as we grew older, but the good memories still remain.

A Yooper! I am so jealous!!!! I too went north to school for a year at Michigan Tech. It was amazing up there. I was majoring in forestry. It was great that so many of us were looking to help the environment and the planet in those days, but unfortunately that didn't translate into great job opportunities at the time. So glad to see that you found a way to continue to help. My husband and I recently purchased land just south east of Cheboygan, in Ocqueoc. We camp there during the summer, but also use it as our jumping off stop to exploring the UP. No matter how many times we we cross the bridge, it never gets old. You definitely live in a little slice of heaven. Take care.

Sue, what a beautiful tribute to your friend. I think you hit the nail on the head. How many of us have heard of the passing of an old friend or acquaintance and said, "I wish... Or if only...". The best we can hope for is to do better going forward.
