Thomas Passmore, Jr.

Thomas "Hootie" Passmore Jr.

Thomas J. Passmore, Jr. “Hootie”, 59, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, following an illness.

He was born to the late Thomas J. and Mary (Lovell) Passmore on November 17, 1954 in South Bend, Indiana.

After high school, Thomas went on to work as a carpenter and later earned his Crew Chief Carpenter position as a result of his precision and hard work. Thomas or “Hootie” as many people knew him enjoyed his coffee time at the Kozy Kitchen where he was just part of the family. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan, and enjoyed his time at the casinos both here in Michigan or Las Vegas. He was quite skilled not only in carpentry, but also had a knack for mechanical things and spent many an hour out in his garage tinkering with cars.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Thomas is survived by his sister Janice (Joseph) Hren of Niles, a brother Ron (Marybeth) Passmore of Whitehall, Arkansas, three nephews; Will Passmore Whitehall, Arkansas, Joshua (Jennifer) Hren of Goshen, Indiana and Jeremy (Liz) Hren of Elkhart, Indiana, one niece, Mary Passmore of Whitehall, Arkansas, his faithful friend for many years Barbie Danley of Buchanan, and his devoted pups Ginger and Roxie.

Services for Thomas will be Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11 O’clock in the morning at Brown Funeral Home in Niles with a time of visitation one hour prior.  Those wishing to make a memorial donation may do so to the Passmore family in c/o Brown Funeral Home 521 East Main Street; Niles, MI.

Very sad that Tom has passed before the 40th - just spoke with him at the Riverfest and he said he might not make it. Tried to assure him he would - hope he received his invite in the mail before he left us and maybe it brought a smile to his face. We both lived on Union Street between age 5 and 13 (for me) and I attended the Bethal Baptist Church with his family and neighbors across the street from time to time. We were both avid baseball fans - he for Chicago Whitesox and I for the Tigers -- and along with Miar's on the street, and a few others - Warren, Mike and Eddie, who would come by, we played many games of baseball in Danny Hurd's extra lot. Good memories - and so glad to hear from the write up that he had a good, productive and full life. God Bless you Tom!

I remember our Westside School days with Tom and the neighborhood gang described in Karen's memorial for Tom ... He always had a BIG heart and was a great guy taken too soon.  Keep smiling upon us, Tom! :) ... tjg

Tom might very well have been the bravest among us at Westside School.  Rumor had it that he let the air out of all the tires on a certain "mean" teacher's car!  Rest in Peace, Tom, and condolences to your family.
