What are your favorite memories of NHS?

Most everyone knew that I had a pretty physical relationship with Kathy Fencl and if we weren't fighting we were doing something else. But I really liked being in the northeast end of the building were the auto shop and trades were. I really liked the street racing, and the late nights. I worked COOP in my senior year so I could pay for all the gas I was using running the streets, but that was what was the fun of it. I know there is more to remember but for some reason the time back then is a little bit fuzzy which seemed to have dulled the memories a little. But that was then and it was a good time for all of us, at least all who can recall it..............

High points of your life since high school?

Married twice and have 2 great girls. I still am into cars and have 1 very nice classic cars of my own , Ha Ha classic cars I bought the first one when we were in school and now it's a classic, does that mean I'm a classic too? Most maybe remember me being kinda small and because I did get picked on a little bit. But after I got out of the navy I got a little bigger and not much could rattle me, so as a part time job for about 22 years I was a bouncer in quite a few local bars. I did become pretty good at it and for a long time not to many were able to push me around, some of you guys ran into me in some of the local places some to say hi and some to have a drink or 2. I really did enjoy it before I hurt my back, but I do have a lot of great stroies and memories to tell to my girls. I don't regreat any of it but it did take a toll on me physcially. My last marriage was the hardest because I did love her a lot but when you bring kids into the mix and they (1 of the girls ) are out of control and you don't get the support you would need to correct the problem , well things just seem to fall apart. Were still friends but ?????. Maybe next time. I'm still looking for the right one. Maybe she is in the next place your not looking. And of course there was that little problem between Fred Byler and me , but that all blew over and we became friends again, but it took some time.

How often do you get back to Niles, MI?

I live just 2 blocks from the High school now. Go to church here and try to stay active in that because the Lord will bring you peace if you just open your heart.

Do you still see/talk to/hang out with any classmates? Who?

I see some of the friends I had in school but as far as hang out , I don't really. I went into the Navy right after school so I lost touch for a time and really never reconnected with any one when I moved back. When I moved back I was married and some of my friends who wern't just drifted away.

Did you have any nicknames in school? If so, what were they?

I don't think so but I do recall being called a few choise words back then by a very mad redhead.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I spend most of my time with my cars and doing a little work on the side , (on cars) as I did work in auto dealerships for 33 years. Now I just watch TV & play in the garage taking my time by building a mini bike for my daughter, it's all most done!

If you own your own business, tell us about it and let us know if you have a web-site.

I did for a short time. I had an auto shop , but I had hurt my back & was unable to do the heavy work & couldn't get any good worker so I sold it. I went on Vacation in 2010 in the later part of the year. Came back & had a triple bypass about 3 months later. So now all I do is watch TV & am involved in the local car club here in town.

Other comments for your classmates:

There has always been some of my classmates that I would like to connect with and maybe talk about some of the times we spent way back then and I hope any that are reading this can give me a call or drop me a line & we can have a good laugh at some of those old times. GOD BLESS !!!

I knew Bill in passing as I spent way to much time inthe east side of the school & he was a great ball player. I think we also have frogot to say to this day no one has tried, well a few did after Bill , but never got close , but we should also remember him for his free throw record of 1974 free throws without a miss in our senior year to bring more attention to our class. Also because of Bill he helped us win the Junior =-senior years comp. in 73 against a far bigger bunch of classmates. we also won our junior-senior comp for the 74 year too. Bill was a great guy & even when he saw you out if you were just  classmate as we were he would always say HI & have somethign uplifting to say. GOD has another of our friends in his arms & I'm sure Bill's having a great time playing with the others who have gone before us. GOD Bless to all his family & know that Bill made a difference in a lot of peoples lives along the hard road we call LIFE. Rest in Peace my friend you'll be missed.

I didn't know Kirt very well only enough to say Hi when we were in school as I spent most of my time in the Northeast wing in the tech side of the school , but it's always hard to lose a classmate no matter how well we knew each other. May GOD BLESS HIM in his journey & love to all his family members. Kirt we will all miss you.

I got to see Alan just a few times a year, like everyone here in Niles at Martins Super Market. The last time I saw him he seemed healthy & as always happy. I'm sorry to say good bye to him. It seems at least every couple months now we are unlucky to see our friends here in this column. God is lucky to have Alan with him, but he will be missed here with us. Rest in peace my friend & God Bless all your family you leave behind.

I knew Shelly because she was the best friend of the girl I was dating at the time,Jr. Sr. year in school. Her dad had the funiture store donwtown & sge would go there after school every day. She was full of life & should be remembered for that if nothing else. She was a sweet & somewhat shy girl who was just coming out of her shell at that time. She & Kathy would run around together all the time & then talk about everthing we did which always shocked her. Lost track of her after school but I hope she had a good life as short as it was. No one should ever leave this world without knwing they were though of & missed. I know her life was short but I hope it was a good life for her.  SHe will always be missed.

This is my 73 GTO , I got this car when I was still in school , kinda. I ordered it & it didn't come in because of then engine option that I ordered never got put in this body style, but I did get this as a left over (demo) for a lot less after I came back from boot camp after I was out of school. I did have a red car in school but it was the one everyone thinks is this car but it was my 69 firebird. It looked closer to the next pic only red. As soon as I can figure out how I put these pics on I'm going to put some more on of what it looks like today. This pic is in 87 or 88, not for sure . But it does look better then this one now, plus the engine compartment is VERY clean & tidy.

This is a pic of my 68 firebird that I bought in 2004 for a very nice price. This is what you might call a barn find as it had been in the guys garage for the last 10 years or so. He ran out of intrest after he had spent about 10K on it & had all the paint & minor body work done to it. The car came from califorina & was his brother first new car. From somewhere around 87-88 he drove it in Chiago year round for about 4-5 years & then gave it to his brother & he put all the money into it then I got it. It still has the ORIGINAL exhaust on it even today. I sold it 3 years ago, it is now in Ann Arbor MI.

Heres one of me and Sara at the quarter pic's from chucky cheese. Good and cheep.

This is the engine in the 68 firebird. Just a quick pic of it to show everyone how clean an engine compartment can be with just a little bit of work. I know most wouldn't even think of keeping the engine compartment this clean, but I guess I like it that way.

Well here it is just a mont ago or so. The date is 8/10-2012. Not bad for a car thats 39 3/4 years old don't ya think. I tell everyone I've had this longer then both wives & all my kids.
Posted: Dec 17, 2013 at 12:13 AM
Hers the engine in it in the last pic. It's out right now because the oil pump went out & I've got a little work to do on it. The engine now looks much better then in this pic & I'll post some of it when I get it back together before it goes back in. The engine is now spotless & is clean enough to eat off of, but I won't get food that close to it as I always spill when I eat & it would get on the engine if I eat around it.

Heres another pic of my pride & joy. This is a pic of Sara about 3 weeks ago. It seems that she grows faster then I can keep up with. She is turning into a real beautiful young lady, although she can't bve very spiteful at time. It's all those raging horamons & the boy craziness coming to the surface. Although she has settleted down after we had a real heart to heart & I reminded her I still am the boss. It probaley didn't hurt that I took her phone away for a week &she wasn't able to talk with her boyfriend for the same length of time. I think she realized I was serious about what we talked about, she learns very quickly. She is a very good girl overall.
