Nuge, see posts 2734 through 2755 for a discussion of T.C.B.
Linda and Steve, I know you're on here-- ready to take this subway train over?!?!?

FYI - I posted some pictures of the class reunion meetings (if that's what you'd like to call them) on my profile page. What fun we have...

Another FYI - For those who live in the area - Round Barn Winery is having their Red, White and BBQ festival this weekend. It's in Baroda, MI and if the weathers nice, it's a great way to spend the the 4th or 5th! They have booths set up with BBQ teams vying to win first place with sauces made up using Round Barns micro brews, wines or vodka. The booths offer free taste tests and then you vote on your favorite BBQ. Round Barn makes Devine Vodka, which supposingly beat Grey Goose out of a competition in Chicago (in my opinion, it's still not as good as Kettle One or Bellvedere).

This was on their website about the festival:
http://www.roundbarnwinery.com/events_bbqfestival.php

"Our 5th Anniversary of this huge event! Bring your discerning taste palettes and an insatiable appetite for two festive days of food, wine, micro-brews & vodka while enjoying live music at our 5th annual BBQ Festival. Fun for the whole family!"

Performing on Saturday 7/4:
7:00 PM Cadillac Dave & his Chicago Redhots
4:30 PM Pucker Up and Rock
2:00 PM Keith Scott

Performing on Sunday 7/5:
5:00 PM Duke Tumatoe
2:15 PM Van Dyke Revue

Cost to get in is 10.00 and I believe you buy drink tickets once you get in. If you come, you can find me on the dance floor having fun!

Suellen, I've seen you on the dance floor many times, and I don't want to miss another chance to see you in action, hope I can make it !!!!!

Hey Sue - thanks for the site! Tickets can be purchased online and picked up at will-call for 7.50! A great savings that could be better put to use by buying more alcohol.

Just an FYI, I see one of my favorite musical performers, Dave Alvin, is playing at a place called "The Livery" in Benton Harbor oh July 5th. Great music! Go see him!

Not to change the subject here........ But as I write The Blueberry Hill Rest. is on fire, so quess no one will be having breakfast there.
For those out of towners, Blueberry Hill is on South 11th / 31, and is the old Big Boys Rest. The fire Department is spraying water on Long John Silvers to keep it and on the other side Arbys.

That explains that! My husband drove by on the way home and he said that it looked like every available unit in Niles was there. That is a bummer! I have quite a few students that work(ed) there!

Dick, another great musician is Dave Frisk. We just got back from listening to him at the Buffalo Rose in Golden. He also plays at the Rock Rest in Golden on Wed. thru the summer. He does alittle bit of traveling, so if u ever get a chance, u need to go see him

FYI for the women in our class; I went to the mall tonight and stopped into Forever 21. OMG! Everything in that store is retro 70's!!! If anyone is still looking for a great 70's outfit for our class reunion, go to your local Forever 21. It's like walking into your closet 35 years ago, and very reasonable prices too! If you're not planning on dressing retro, go anyways and just look around. Talk about a blast from the past - I loved it!

Speaking of musicians, does anyone know a man named Ron Rutkowski (his actual name was Robert but his father was named Robert so his Mom called him Ron, to keep it straight) from south bend, he plays bass and or Jack Nash, too, from south bend, plays drums. (they played together in a 3 man band, some of you may have seen them/remember them... I keep thinking I will see one of them in these great bands you all talk about?? (they both would be around our age, maybe a little older but great musicians)

(I can post picts of them back in the day but they played in SB often and popularly)

Sorry to hear about the fire. Fire is alway so devastating..........

On a high note: I spoke with Judy Struve Lollabridgitta today!!!! Oh M G, she sounds sooo good..I hope to hook up with her before the reunion to bring back video or picts for folks, (who remember her) oh uh I mean "peeps", folks is such an old fashioned word

Suellen, I just caught your forever 21, if you have a Michelle D's, even Mervyn's, JC Penney, I bet Old Navy and everything Ross/Marshall's/TJ Max has extreme retro 70's, For shoes: go to Payless/BoGo.......it is easy and cheap to reproduce the look right now. Lotts of fun things.........

If you REALLY want to get "into it" go on line and just punch in 1974 retro look.........quick cheep stuff from costumers in L.A.

I still have the same combat boots that I bought at the Army/Navy Surplus store on Michigan Ave.(Fat Daddy's)?? in South Bend when I was in 10th grade. Do those count? Pat Benjamin and I each bought a pair but I don't think those were an "actual" style!

Forever 21, I just love that store but I was in there the other day and they had quite a few larger sizes but not many size 0 or size 1 ;( Those are so hard to find! :) ;) ;# :>) I AM SO JOKING!!!

07/03/09 08:53 AM #2749

Wendy Rehm (Comar)

OK---I'm laughing at Cheryl's comment above!!! Thanks Cheryl---I needed a laugh. I believe I was a size 0 in----well never!

Anyway, I'm putting together the commerce page today where we highlight the businesses of our classmates (in hopes we will be their customers.) If you have a business you want highlighted, email me the description, website url, contact information and any discounts you may offer. I'll get it added.

Hey, I wouldn't recognize Roseville without that Arby's... Maybe I wouldn't have recognized it without the Big Boy's! Hell, I can't even remember, it might've been Roseland... killed a lotta brain cells there... I tell folks there was a bar there that was timeless, they don't believe me. Open after closing time. It was like drinking in the Twilight Zone, and all they served was alcohol... They oughtta rename the place Twilight Zone!

07/03/09 09:32 PM #2751

Pam Wery (Payne )

JL
It is Roseland.
as for Blueberry Hill, closed for about a month, the kitchen was totaled, and the rest of the place has major smoke and water damage.

I'll have to check out that place in the Mall maybe Sunday, I still have my Peace Sign Earrings from school! Maybe I'll find something to go with them!

If my brain cells are still working then!

Our former English teacher at Ballard, Charlie Shields, was mayor of Roseland for several years. He retired but later he was begged to come back and straighten out a village nightmare.

I just bought I retro pair of hip-hugger jeans from Delia's and the zipper is about 3 inches long. How is that supposed to work, may I ask?

Sue-Sue Baird (Conlyn)

um... might I suggest a mini skirt? or better yet, a mini dress. I've always heard Legs are the last thing to go.

07/04/09 10:02 AM #2754

Stephanie Sirovica (Hessey)

Cheryl-OMG hip huggers for my hips, not a pretty sight! The material would have to be stretch fabric to hug these big ole hips!! Hell I'm trying to find something in a basic black to hide the hips!! Not really although we all have changed in so many ways, we are who we are in the unique different way of each positive way we have all added to the world. Visual differnce is only one way, our positive attitudes add to the world and we are all adding in our unique ways!!!!!

Just wanted to say a warm, heartfelt thank you to all the sons and daughters of our classmates that have served and are currently serving in all branches of the military. Also to all the relatives and actual classmates that are still serving or have served. Our freedom is precious and well earned. As Americans we will never take that for granted. I have not travelled outside the US but many have and have seen how lack of freedom affects daily life. I am appreciative and honored to be an American. Today is a gentle reminder to all of us to take a quiet moment sometime today and let your thoughts drift to all that have served and be grateful for their sacrifices. Happy Fourth of July everyone!

Cheryl Frame (Malinowski)

Oh Steph, I didn't say ANYTHING about being a pretty site! And, they ARE stretch ;) But that zipper isn't stretching.

SS- I think you may be right on the leg thing ... good suggestion. How about a camo mini-skirt and army boots?
