I had a two-hour weather delay today!
Parent phone call: So, if there is a 2-hour delay today and my kid usually starts at 7:35, what time are they supposed to be at school today?
Cheryl's response: HHmmmmm ... could you please repeat that question?

Great to see that the conversation continues five months beyond our reunion. That's proof positive how much fun it was and what good friendships have been preserved.
We should be counting down soon to an upcoming fundraiser - right Tom? It's so much more fun to think about coming home to Niles when there's the chance to get together.

I talked with Jeanie today and think I might have finally talked her into getting a laptop or notebook. We'll see. Can't even imagine being without wifi - never again!

Been busy with the whole life thing and I went and missed about 100 pages of messages, so here's a few thoughts to passed on to you:

The Zen of Sarcasm

1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me alone .

2. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and leaky tire.

3. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.

4. Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

5. Always remember that you're unique. Just like everyone else.

6. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

7. If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.

8. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

9. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is probably not for you.

10. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

11. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably a wise investment.

12. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

13. Some days you're the bug; some days you're the windshield .

14. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

15. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

16. A closed mouth gathers no foot.

17. Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

18. There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works.

19. Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving .

20. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

21. Never miss a good chance to shut up .

AND

22. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night!

...and one more that one of my "younger" military friends at the Coast Guard Academy sent me:

Now is the good time to start a second childhood. It is all up to you.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD. WELL. YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE.

MY NAME IS ALICE SMITH AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST. I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME.

SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 30-ODD YEARS AGO. COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?

UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT. THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.

AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL .

'YES. YES, I DID. I'M A MUSTANG,' HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

'WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?' I ASKED.

HE ANSWERED, 'IN 1975. WHY DO YOU ASK?'

'YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!', I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.

THEN, THAT UGLY,

OLD,

BALD,

WRINKLED,

FAT ASS,

GRAY-HAIRED,

DECREPIT SON-OF-A-BITCH ASKED,

'WHAT DID YOU TEACH ???

Just want all to know that we lost a coaching legend today. Coach Bender passed away from lung cancer at 3:25am. Many of you played for him and have fond memories. Dad and I had lots of fun reminiscing those Rign Lardner football, track stories. The Ol Coach will be coaching a new team in heaven.

Bennie, sorry to hear of our recent loss. I have fond memories of Coach at school and we always used to catch him at Bill and Wallies in Buchanan. I always made a point to say hello, but I don't think he remembered me. Probably cuz he touched so many young mens lives, not to mention touching their behinds with that big paddle.

Debbie Curtis (Harrington)

Thanks for the birthday wishes.
I know, can't believe it's been 5 months sence the reunion. I really did have a good time. The beach was the best!! The days, weeks, months just seem to go by and before I know it....it's a year?!

Boonie....Black Hawks are okay too! I started out as a Black Hawk fan with my Dad. Just only seem to follow the Red Wings up here anymore. No problems!!

I do still have your pictures. Need to get back together and catch up. My Mom loved the old pic's.
