Well, Don--and Jim--I have played the heavy metal in Denver--at DU...but at the time, didn't know you (Don) were in the neighborhood!
Sometimes I just go up and practice there, when we're in Colorado for a week or so...it's a great view of the Rockies, unimpeded by houses/traffic and the like. And, after climbing over 130 stairs, one DOES earn the right to play!
Some mornings/evenings it CERTAINLY does feel like that should be the title to a [new?] work!
If you like to compose....octatonic music (now, that doesn't mean GIN and tonic!) and whole-tone scales work well; also, JL, believe it or not, classical guitar music translates in a stellar manner to the carillon...because of its linear and clean lines....(little vertical harmony).
So...go forth and compose......... I'll try it out and tell you how it is... (and, I could even upload a version of it from carillon to this website...according to all of the parameters we've been given)
You know, I feel sorry for the class of 1975...they only have about 350 or so messages on their message forum.
We should 'take over' their site and let them know how fun it is, how inspiring, how _________.... inane (?!) it is to have folks writing lovely little essays...
Ok, for those that are not paying attention, we are doing sand sculptures! really a lot of fun, two teams , Sue-Sue and myself will be captains, nothing but a really fun outing, 10:00 am Tower Hill! Loook at pictures from last summer, we are not teenagers anymore so dress as you see fit, ( or what will fit you) lol.......... be there or miss out on all the fun!!!!!!!!!!!
I say, I say, I see chips flying but no wood being cut jl .....or I thought Jethro Tull was one of the beverly Hill Billies! well anyway jl I ain't got no fetching up like you does, so be easy on me Bud!
JL, sorry not to be more current on reading the posts...hmmm, got chords? :) If anyone's in Springfield, IL, area, I'll be 'in town' there for a week, beginning 6 June; and I'll be in Naperville/Chicago area for about another week beginning 13 June...carillon festivals/congress/conference in both towns... If you've never heard carillon music, come on out...check the newspaper for concert times...I know Springfield has concerts each night --from 630 ( I believe) on--there are two 45-minute recitals each evening, except for Wednesday. It's at the Springfield Thomas Rees Carillon Park... And, in Naperville, we'll be at Rockefeller Carillon, and Botanical park... If you're in the area, come on and enjoy great music! it's free, outdoors, informal, etc...many people bring a book to read, or dog to walk, or put on comfy shoes and walk around enjoying the music, and the flowers!
Karen, Sue-Sue and myself will be the captains again! when people show up they can just go to the team of their choice! 10:00 am Tower Hill.. July 24th.......Beach Day...2010
We will be meeting in the first parking lot at Tower Hill, and on the beach right there too! Just so everyone knows where to go when you get in the park!
Does anyone remember the name of the Old Hotel across from Fowlers Donut place down by the train station bridge? The original name from like back in the early 60's?
My brother, Mom and I have been trying to think of it all weekend. Not sure how we got on the subject, but now we just need to know.
Debbie...I believe the name of that hotel was "The Madonna". There was also a "night club" across the street and the reason I "think" I know is that I used to ride my bike over the bridge, with golf clubs in hand, on my way to Plym Park to play golf as a youngster. HTH!
