70's music -- anything from CTA aka Chicago and anything Spinners, Commodore's - Motown.

What's the line up of what's coming up for Niles activities? Any music or other events downtown or by the river maybe? Maybe a possibility of where to congregate or 'hang out' when we get together?

Hey Tom H. - thanks for filling in the blank on the golf course. : )  And, happy belated birthday too!!

Hi everyone,

Lynn Schweinzger came to Chicago this week for a nice visit. She took the Amtack from Niles and we had a few fun "girls" days together. We went to the Art institute for the day, enjoyed a nice lunch and survived a wintery day in the middle of April.

None the less, a great time indeed!

We are both looking forward to seeing everyone this summer if there is a get together.

Lynn will be happy to help with any fund raisers for the next reunion. She heard that the class of 1981 is having a wine tasting event for their fundraiser.

Sounds fun.

Benton Harbor situation:

Are the people in BH standing up to this 'takeover'?

I find it very distressing that people can come in and take over the ELECTED OFFICIALS...

Is Niles in the same dire predicament? or...??

Sharon Niles seems to be in good shape no take overs in sight.

All by myself, I don't wanna be

All by myself any more...

[Note: your brain has just been infected by a virus, a lame 70s song virus. Unless you were thinking of the Mariah Carey cover of the lame 70s song, in which case, my condolences. The virus symptoms include: having the lame song in your head now, for the rest of the day and; hating yourself for being unable to stop it and; hating old Jim for giving you a brain virus. Sorry.]

Jim, what would Eric Carmen (sp?) think of that? I met a groupie of his, San Diego in 1987, and she dished out all kinds of things about that guy...too funny! The people you meet after a night out clubbing...

Don,

According to information from Press reports, the city of Benton Harbor has been 'taken over' by non-elected officials, to run the city.

Rachel Maddow reports on the suspension of the decision-making powers of elected officials in the town of Benton Harbor, Michigan by the state's Republican governor in the context of intrusive government policies being enacted by Republican governors across the country. Lansing, Michigan Mayor Virg Bernero joins for analysis.

Class of '76 is holding their reunion the first weekend of August.  Perhaps we should plan our summer event over that weekend for a grand slam...getting together with each other, seeing some of our friends from the class of '76, and Riverfest activities!!!  Thoughts?

We can try to get something going on at that date Faith! Will let everyone know what we come up with! Thanx!

Jack, the thought of Eric Carmen's exploits is enough to turn my brown eyes blue!

Dick Crocker

Hey Jim & Jack!  Be sure to ask Eric Carmen's groupie about his days in The Raspberries, now that's rock and roll. ;-) (by the way, how did my silhouette get on this website?)

05/14/11 06:19 PM #3677

Jim Lanier

Yeah, I seen the Raspberries with Metallica and Black Sabbath, I think. . . or maybe it was the Who and the What? No, The What The?

Hey, let's name the band! How about the Adynoidal Accidents? The Frayed Knots? The Naughty Sweeties? The Non-Rolling Stones?

05/15/11 05:21 PM #3678

Jim Lanier

Well, bad news, Jim: you're out of the band!

Well, that's gonna make my name choices less flattering . . .

Anyway, if you guys aren't allergic to technology, you're missing some funny stuff if you're not following me on Twitter: I'm @writesing. Now, for those of you who aren't "hip" to this new thing, I'll explain: you should get a "computer." Then you need to connect to the "internet." Then you must "navigate" to "Twitter.com." Then you type in answers to questions, so you'll have a "Twitter account." Then you need to "follow" me, @writesing. Then you need to laugh and laugh.

Also of major signifigance to the fate of the world: my blog,

http://jimlanieronline.com/blog

Then you will be participating in "social media," which means you will win friends and influence people.

Jim Lanier

Well that was a conversation stopper, Jim! But a monolog starter! You see, I believe for every drop of rain, a flower grows. But enough about me! New name for the band: Matt & the Hazmat-Matics!

Oh, and there's this news item: I'll be in the Michigan area with my wife Becky some time before the end of this year, 2011 (probably in the fall). That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it! We plan a grand tour, such tourist hotspots as Niles, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids. We're going to try to have a tailgate party before, after and possibly during a MICHIGAN football game, depending on the score and whether we can pick an opponent MICHIGAN can beat.

This will be an inclusive rather than exclusive venture, hope to see you all in the flesh!

Is everyone on the southwest side of Michigan okay, particularly Niles?!?!?  We drove through that storm on our way back home from the Holland area to Madison WI.  Driving around Chicago was pretty scary.  Then I read about Battle Creek this a.m. - holy smokes!

Everything seems just fine in Niles !

Glad to hear it! I was starting to think everybody back there got raptured . . . But knowing the class of '74 as I do, it didn't seem likely!
