News is on now since the b-ball games just finished. Lots of the panhandle cities have 12" with 7 to 10 foot drifts. Still just a dusting here but they say by morning it will be covering everything.

Tom, thanks for the invite but i guess we will be getting hit here this weekend and early next week. I am really getting tired of the up and down temps. the kids in the classroom are sneezing and coughing all over the place! The calendar says SPRING so no more snow!

Just a little childhood trivia: Now I'm really going to tap everyone's memories, does anyone remember these readers from 1st & 2nd Grade. Did anyone ever think the readers would someday inspire the movie "Fun with Dick & Jane" Please click here - Fun with Dick & Jane

I am playing catch up here... I don't have enough time to read all of the messages in the forum in one sitting! I am up to page 12, and there are 40 pages!

Sue-Sue, it's going to be hard to follow the flow and/or make sense of all the topics some seem to be memories of friends, others just trying to make it a fun place to chat, and others just trying to bring back memories of things long past. The topics seem to jump around and change hourly and daily. Have fun! :)

So the weathermen went spazzo with the predictions again and all we got in OKC was the dusting. Sun is out and looks like the dusting will disappear soon. Guess we shouldn't complain - any precipitation is welcome, except my weeds are growing too fast!

Tom, I bet you're glad you dodged the snow storm. It didn't snow much when I was in OKC and Norman. Spring is here in the DC Metro area, most of the tree's are starting to blossom due to the warmer weather and rain.

For those of you who call themselves optimists, I've posted the "Top 10 Reasons why it's a good thing the world is ending in 2012" (end of the Mayan calendar) on my profile.
I used to be such a pessimist!

Jim, thanks for the top ten. Very interesting. It's kind of sad if it's true...i won't be able to see my daughter graduate or go to college or get married or have grandkids! ;(

Our 4-8" of snow never materialized (rats!)...
We had freezing rain today, and the temperatures hovered between 31 and 33, so not much damage...just lovely icing on the trees (some of the blossoming trees are probably sadder for wear!)...

I was prepared to have a VERY long drive through un-plowed roads to Kansas City tomorrow. They evidently got some of the snow, but not the major amounts any of us were expecting.

I expect icy roads will be the by-word at 6 a.m....

Bev--I will do some posting of photos, but it will be a little while. Our youngest Golden retriever, Sophie, has ruptured both 'ACL' tendons...and we take her in for an arthroscopic procedure (quite new) called 'tight-rope' procedure, to fix one of them...Monday she is evaluated and Tuesday is the surgery; our vet is going to 'scrub-in' with the doctor who initiated this particular surgery. What we do for our pets!

Sharon-please be careful on those icy roads! they can be hazardous.

It's thundering and lightening out so better get off of here...good night everyone and have a wonderful evening.

Thanks, Linda!

And, Vance--yes, I remember Dick and Jane. See Jane. See Dick. See Spot. See Spot run.

I remember I had Mrs Eytcheson (sp?) at Central for first grade, even though I was at Eastside for K, 2-6. I loved that woman! She let us read far beyond that...and I can remember she selected a handful of us who read TIME magazine articles, and she could ask us about the content, and we would know what it was all about. I can recall 'being presented' at several PTAs in town, with us 'performing' --reading out loud, and being quizzed. And, I don't recall that we were "prepared in advance."

She really loved for students to read, and I'm thankful for her love of reading to this day.

For you Lardner alums: I have been in 3 community theater productions with your Mr. Dennison. He is retired here in Hastings, where I live and work.

Guess everyones memory is pretty good, but I definitely forgot about Puff the cat and about how the sentence structure/dialogue went...I hope the kids readers today have progressed beyond Dick & Jane....

Tim -- what shows have you done? Any scripts that match the intrigue and passion of "All Aboard for Florence?"

Hhuhh, hunhhh, huhh-- Vance said "Dick"!!!

Suellen Etzcorn (Foster)

Vance - I went antique shopping today. Do you know how much a 'Dick and Jane' book is worth these days? It's absolutely scary how many of our toys and books are now "collectors" items! It's all very disturbing in my opinion!

As far as the weather... we should all be thanking God that we don't live in (or around) Fargo, N. Dakota! Who would live there? Flooding while it's -4? No thanks!

03/29/09 08:41 PM #1004

Vance Allen

Okay, Jim let me rephrase this for your virgin ears, since this is a "PG" rated site I'll refer to our elementary school readers as "Richard & Jane" boy that new name really lost it's impact...I bet if the movie was named "Fun with Richard & Jane" it would have been even a worse box office splash.

03/29/09 08:45 PM #1005

Vance Allen

Suellen, how much are they running? You're right if we had only kept those old toys & books from childhood, I bet they would be worth more than our 401Ks are these days.

Sharon, sorry about the dog. I've never heard of such athing. What was he doing to damage his ACL? I work for an Orthopaedic Group, this would be a good one to share with them..

Tim...I would never have guessed that Mr. Dennison would be in theater. He always seemed so shy. Isn't community theater the best. I love it. Haven't been able to do any for a while I miss it. I love being on stage...
